Luther Pecan Festival

Effort is the foundation of what we do. Luther Lions Football Head Coach Shawn Meek and Scott Mitchell of Mitchell Talks catch us up on the season. The record – six wins and zero losses and the next game is against Alva.

Fall Break Friday night brings the Alva Goldbugs to Wilson Field for the first home game in a month. Meek credits the work of his special teams with the team’s success, but admits that mid-season injuries mean the players are playing through some pain. But he credits a deep roster of 40 players and the  toughness of the team.

Coach Meek said it’s a cliche but “this is the biggest game on our schedule because it’s the next one we play.” He also said he won’t discount last year’s results when the Lions made the three and a half hour road trip to the north west part of the state and lost.

“We are a different team from last year and they have a different team too. Both teams are trying to get to the playoffs,” he said.

The Lions will go on the road for the next two weeks and bring it home for their final home game against Oklahoma Christian School on November 8.
