UPDATE TO IDENTIFY VICTIM

Authorities are investigating a death in Luther at the train tracks off of Dobbs north of State Highway 66. Luther Police Chief Tony Walker reports a call came in about 8 am Monday, July 15. Witnesses say a man, possibly in his late forties, was hit by an oncoming train.

Chief Walker said that witnesses report that the man was lying on the tracks in a fetal position, and the train, with 71 cars behind it, could not stop in time.

Until the man’s family is notified about the tragedy, his identity is not being released, said Chief Walker. The stopped train remained in the vicinity about Noon, but the road way was cleared on Dobbs.

Luther Mayor Jenni White asked the public to remember the family and first responders in their prayers.

Please, not only remember the family … in your prayers, please also remember our wonderful EMT and firefighters – as well as our police Chief and officers – who worked this case. Our first responders have to witness things no one should have to and we need to remember to thank them for their service and keep them in our prayers,” said Mayor White.

UPDATE. The victim was identified as Larry Danker, 48. Services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019, at 2 pm at Wellston High School. Read his tribute here. Arrangements by Boydston Bailey Funeral Home.
