It probably tells our age and how long we’ve been in Oklahoma when we want to sing, “Don’t Lay That Trash On Oklahoma,” anytime someone mentions cleaning up trash. What a classic! If you can’t recall it from memory, youtube has kept it alive for us.
We can sing along on Saturday, May 18, as the Luther Parks Commission will fan out with volunteers like you and me on a two-hour clean up day around town. It’s part of the town’s participation with Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.
Here are the details:
The Parks Commission, as part of our membership in the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful Organization, takes to the streets of Luther with our garbage bags to rid the Town of as much obvious garbage as possible. We’d love YOUR help!
If you’d like to attend, please meet at the OLD Dollar General parking lot (just south of Sonic on Luther Road). We’ll have water and garbage sacks. You might want to have a pair of light cotton work gloves to protect your hands from wet trash,” from the FB Event Page.
The effort will only take a couple of hours early Saturday from 8 am – 10 am. Come help knock it out as a family service project, and then return to your weekend.
While in town, local businesses would love for you to stop by to eat or shop. And Josephine’s Farmer’s Market will be open from 8 am – 1 pm at Second and Ash. Local growers like Down The Road Farm will be there with their gourmet mushrooms. You can also find other flowers, early vegetables, plants and art.
The visiting vet will be at the Luther Farmer’s Market on Saturday as well. You can bring your dog or cat for an exam, discount vaccinations and flea/tick medicine.
