Luther Beats Jones

Bison Blinds

Longtime rivals, the Lions and the Longhorns only meet on the basketball court these days, not the football field nor the baseball diamond. Jones competes in 3A and Luther is in 2A, still the competition is fierce between the neighboring towns as evidenced by the full bleachers on the home side and the visitors side of the gym featuring many Lion Alumni who are home from college and other adventures.

Still the Lions stayed ahead the whole game, wrapping it up with a 61 – 49 win. The game followed another competitive match with the Lady Lions. The matchup repeats at Jones on January 22.

The matchup was the last school event before Christmas Break. Next game is January 4 against Christian Heritage Academy at home. It’ll be the last game before school district voters decide whether to approve a $24 million bond package that includes a new gym. The election is January 8, 2019.

The night of hoops began with the JV Boys game and the first win. Lions scorers were Jake Lombard 13, Caleb Grounds 7, Owen Wilson 5, Braden Browning 5, Drew Scheer 3, Miken Melvin 3, Reed Wilson 2 and Aidan Maley 1.
