
The Lions cross country team headed to Shawnee to race at Oklahoma Baptist University’s “Pre-State Challenge” Thursday morning.
The athletes ran the same the same course as OBU’s varsity cross country team. The meet, which raced every class from 2A to 6A, had more than 2,500 athletes compete.

The finish times for each Lion runner: Jay Cross, 20:15; Wil Mohr, 20:51; Chris Casio, 22:07; Collin Garrett, 22:32; and Carson Easley, 23:39.
Three of the five member team represented their hometown at the Luther meet on Saturday, September 29. Jay Cross, Chris Casio and Carson Easley ran the nororiously difficult Deadwood Forest course on 178th street at Dobbs, along with 129 other high school male and female athletes. Wil Mohr and Collin Easley were with the high school band, competing in Okmulgee and earning second place in their division and a fan favorite award.
Jay Cross medaled at the Luther meet with a run of 18:50.
Cross Country Regionals will take place next Saturday, October 13. The location, Chisholm, Henrietta, or Velma, will be determined later this week.
To qualify for state, a team has to place in the top seven at their regional meet.
Last year the team finished in tenth place at the Chisholm regional meet.
Coach Stan Higdon said the team has a pretty good shot at getting in the top seven this year.
