For the Win: Luther Cross Country Takes First

Cross and Casio finish in Top Three

It was a streak of Luther Lion red leading the pack at Saturday’s Prague Cross Country Meet.  The week of rain and a soggy course didn’t hamper the Luther team as it raced to its first team win of the season. The high school boys led by Jay Cross and Chris Casio earned two of the top three spots. Four Lions were top 20 medalists. Today’s trophy is the team’s fifth in a row.

Jay Cross and the other lead runners raced back and forth the whole 5K course. The Luther Senior finished in second place with his 18:59 time, even though it lagged last week’s time by 20 seconds.

Chris Casio improved in leaps and bounds, finishing third at 19:05. Last week, Casio came in 23rd place.

Battling wet conditions, Wil Mohr slipped at the starting line, but he didn’t let it faze him. He was the next Lion to finish in sixth place with a time of 19:35.

Collin Garrett finished with 21:00 time in 15th place. He improved for 20 seconds.

The biggest improvement from the Lions came from freshman Carson Easley. Finishing in 23rd place in Prague, his time of  22:02 today was two minutes faster than his first 5K in Okema on September 1.

The Lions will run in Tecumseh on Sept. 18. The Luther Lions home meet is  Sept. 29.
