The Luther Lion Football Season is underway, and so is the second season of every Lion fan’s favorite podcast, “Friday Night Wrapup With Coach Zack Smith.”
This first episode of the 2018 season is worth every second of the nearly 20-minute listen. Scott Mitchell is the brain trust behind Mitchell Talks and is a digital influencer and broadcast & podcast producer. You’ve seen him on News9 with political analysis, just this week on the primary runoff election night. You can catch him on the weekends with Your Vote Counts also on News9.
He brings the microphone and his skills to Wilson Field every week of the football season to chat with Lions Head Coach Zack Smith. They had a lot to talk about this week, as they preview the season, Thursday night’s game in Norman and talk about the tough loss on Week One against Meeker.

The wide-ranging discussion this week covered Coach’s Smith’s hashtags, #eat, #tempo, #family, #dna and #mytown. And they talk up the coaching staff including Coach Haskell Browning, assistant football coach and head baseball coach.
“I kid him and call him Mr. Luther because he grew up here, graduated from here and came back here. He serves our community every day. He mows our game fields. We take a lot of pride in our facility and it shows. Our coaches do a great job of keeping up with maintenance things,” said Coach Smith.
He also praised the rest of his coaching staff Matthew Price, Michael Voss, Zhermayne Hopkins, Trey Northrip and Terrance Artripand. He said they are also mentors.
“We are not just football coaches. I’m a biology teacher first. What I was hired to do is teach school and this is one small part of the job. But it’s 24-7 almost; mentoring these young men; coaching them; teaching them; helping them out; getting them to be part of the community as we are part of the community,” said Coach Smith.
The Lions play Community Christian in Norman on THURSDAY night. Luther schools are closed Friday and Monday for the long Labor Day Weekend.
