Monday night the Lions battled the Wellston Tigers at Wellston. There were solid plays from the Lion defense in the field, but the Lions couldn’t meet the Tigers’ batting and took another tough loss, falling to the Tigers 11-2.

Junior Makinlee Jones had a good night, getting both runs for the Lions: one in the first inning and one in the fifth. The fifth inning run was especially memorable: Jones got hit by the ball giving her a walk to first base.

When the next batter, Junior Kennedy Cox, came up to the plate, Jones made two brave steals to get to third base. Cox hit a short ground to the pitcher who threw to her out at first, allowing Jones to make it home.

On the defensive side, Jones also had two impressive catches out in center field during the second inning. In the third inning, Senior Sydney Jones at shortstop made a quick stop on a ground ball and threw to first base to get third out of the inning.

Kennedy Cox’s RBI let MaKinlee Jones run home.

In the fourth, a Tiger batter bunted a really short ball right in front of home plate, and sophomore Kacie Bolner at catcher was fast on the recovery and threw her out at first base. Also in the fourth, freshman Gracie Tytenciz went in at pitcher.
