It was a beautiful morning for the beginning of the Cross Country season, and the Luther Lions were determined to not let it go to waste at the Stroud meet.
Coach Stan Higdon said it was a tough meet since Sequoyah, a 4A school with one of the best cross country teams in the state, and Kiefer, a 3A school with a similarly talented team, were competing. But the Lions held their own and four out the seven runners for Luther medaled in the top 15 of their divisions.

On the Varsity boys team, Jay Cross was the first Lion to cross the finish line, placing eleventh overall with a time of 13:26. Wil Mohr came in fifteenth overall with a 13:50 run time.

Chris Casio ran a 14:05 for 19th, Collin Garrett ran a 16:15 for 30th and Seth Breckinridge ran an 18:04 for 42nd.

In the Junior Varsity boys division, Carson Easley ran a 17:11 to finish in eleventh place.

Rounding out the Lions team, Kory Price finished eleventh in the Junior Varsity girls division with a 12:51 time.
Coach Higdon said this was a great start to the season, and he’s expecting the team to keep improving.
One of the leading members of the Varsity team, Jake Lombard, was not at this meet, but Higdon said he’s expecting Lombard to return to competition in two weeks.
The next cross country meet for the Lions is August 25 in Seminole.
