Chili Showdown for Fireworks

Support Community News.

When the creative spirit gets launched, there is a lot of fun to be had in Luther – and a lot of good chili and cornbread. The Luther Fire Department and Police Department are in a friendly competition to outdo each other on the best pot of chili. It’s part of a fundaiser to help pay for the Town Fireworks show next month.

Will it be LPD Chief David Randall’s cajun influence or  LFD Chief John Brown’s “own concoction” that wins over the esteemed panel of judges? Saturday will tell!

All of us can get a taste by meeting up at the Community Center on Saturday at 1 pm for the event. And if you want to get in on the fun, donations of cornbread will be accepted. Just let Town Hall know you are bringing cornbread no later than Friday. Chili and cornbread should be delivered to the Community Center Saturday by Noon. The event begins at 1 pm.

It’s $5 to taste all of the chili, but donations beyond that will be accepted.

“In addition to the Chili Cook-Off, we will have a ‘Best Cornbread’ category as well.  We will have three judges selecting a First, Second and Third prize for the chili cook-off,” said Kacey Wood, Luther Parks Commission chairperson. The effort is to fund this year’s fireworks show at Wildhorse Park. Last year Luther’s First Bank & Trust (now BancFirst) and The Rustic Farm pitched in to fund the community activity.  This year the community has a chance to pitch in.

Another way to help is to donate in the ADOPT A BOOM containers at retail and restaurant spots around town.

Find the Adopt A Boom donation tubes at Jarvis Liquor, Chicken Shack, Route 66 Convenience Store, Luther Hardware, S&H Mercantile, Urban 66, Josephine’s Cafe, 116 Farmstead Market & Table, Luther Feed Store, Rustic Farm and Dollar General.

The Fireworks Show is planned for July 4, 2018, at Wildhorse Park.

Note: Also Saturday is the Trash Pick-Up Day to help beautify our Town. Meet at 8 am at Town Hall to get a trashbag and water to keep volunteers hydrated.
