Luther Grown & Raised: 2018 Alumni Weekend

Support Community News.

It happens every other year. And every Lion is invited. Preparations are in full swing for Luther Alumni Weekend, May 12, 2018. It’s a day when every Lion comes home. The 2018 Alumni Committee, led by Lisa Rondina and LIONS from the classes of 1979, 1981 and 2014, is in full event planning mode.

2018 Alumni Committee: Carly Beth Wilson, Denelda Hattenhaurer, Lisa Rondina, Kamara Johnson, Shirley Heck and Cynthia Broomfield.

Events kick-off Friday evening with the Luther Alumni Softball Showdown at 6pm on the fields at Wildhorse Park. Teams will be even years versus odd years with a cost of $10 a person.

With events designed to visit, eat, explore, visit, eat and explore (then visit and eat some more!) – festivities kick off at 8 am with the Pancake Breakfast cooked up by the 4H and FFA. Alumni can visit street vendors along Main Street all day. The Fifty Year Classes of 1967 & 1968 will have “Coffee at (Josephine’s) Cafe” at 10 am. And the BIG parade is at 2 pm. The All Alumni Banquet is at 5:30 pm at the High School Commons to be catered by Luther’s 116 Farmstead, Market & Table. The evening will close out with a 9 pm dance sponsored by the LMS and LHS Cheerleaders.

The Luther FFA & 4H Booster Club also is offering a rib fundraiser. (See flyer in photo gallery below).

Trandy Langston is organizing the parade as she did in 2016. She said they are looking for entries of all kinds, especially featuring kids and their bicycles. There might be prizes involved!

“I hope this year’s parade is even bigger and I can make Luther and Alumni proud. This town means so much to me and the loving close community we have is amazing,” she said. “I can’t imagine anyone out there who wouldn’t want to be a part of these festivities. It sure takes a village and I’m thankful so many volunteer their time to come together and get things done!”
