Freda Mae Boydston (87) of Luther went to be with the Lord on February 21, 2018.

Freda was born May 20, 1930, in Seneca, MO to Hiram and Jannie (Harris) Sexton. She lived in Wyandotte, OK briefly where she was a member of the tribe before moving to Luther, OK at the age of 5. She attended Luther Public Schools where she met her future husband, Jay, in the third grade. Freda was known for being ornery and fun loving in school and Jay was the perfect balance for her feisty personality. Freda graduated from Luther High School in 1949 and married Jay November 25th of that year. To this union, they were blessed with four sons: Keith, Buddy, Wes and Kent.

Freda began working as a secretary at Luther Public Schools in the 1960s. Her first office was in the hallway of the current middle school where she was well known for doing everything from acting as the school nurse to asking each child if they were having a “hot lunch” that day. She retired in 1995.

Freda and Jay were blessed with eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. They attended every single ball game they were able to, and if you asked Freda, hers were by far the best players on the team. Freda was also notorious for doing her great-grandkids’ homework. We like to joke that she has earned several diplomas over the years. They loved to take the kids walking down the railroad tracks on sunny days and taught them how to flatten coins on the tracks. Their house was the best place for the football team to get a steak before the game on Friday nights and where you would find the whole family on Sunday afternoons for “dinner.”

The only thing Freda and Jay loved as much as their grandkids was packing up their travel trailer and spending the summer traveling. They would leave as soon as school let out for summer, calling home every now and then when they’d find a phone at a campground. Freda loved to keep a journal about everything they did and even kept records of how much their groceries cost. They visited nearly every state by the time they decided to stop.

Freda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jacob Charles Boydston: parents Hiram and Jannie Sexton; sister Emily Prokup; and sons Keith and Buddy Boydston. She is survived by her son, Wes and his wife, Lisa Boydston of Luther, OK; Son, Kent Boydston of Guthrie, OK; Daughter-in-law Josa Boydston of Luther, OK; Granddaughters Jenny, Micah, Megan and Marti; Grandsons Jay, Buddy, Kevin and Dustin; Great-Granddaughters Jacee, Hannah, Caitlin, Kiley, Carter, Madison, Jasie, Mila, Penelope and Charlotte; Great-grandsons Shea, Collin, Lane, Nick, Cade, Elliott, Henry, and Brooks; Great-Great Grandson Cedric; Brother Raymond and wife Betty Sexton of Corpus Christy, TX: Brother Bill and wife Betty Sexton of Luther, OK and a host of other family and friends.

Run or Walk 5K

While she will be missed dearly, we are so happy that she has finally joined the love of her life in Heaven. We know that they are patiently waiting together to walk us through the gates of Heaven, the same way they would walk us down the railroad tracks.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 26, 2018, 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Luther. Viewing will be Sunday, February 25th from 3-8PM at Boydston-Bailey Funeral Home.
