An unstoppable force of friends and family accomplished a goal over the weekend when the needed money was raised to help 12-year-old Taelor Heron get a motorized wheelchair.
Taelor has a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy. While noting that her parents have been battling some insurance issues to get her a new chair, a community came together with a go-around. In the spirit of “where there’s a will there’s a way,” a fund-raising event was planned at the park.
The first event a couple of weeks ago was a rainout. So they tried tried again. The repeat performance at Wildhorse Park on Saturday brought a generous crowd.
The event included face-painting and donations from A Bright Tomorrow Counseling Service, the infamous foam pit from Opus Entertainment who hosted the event, bounce house, crafts and games and silent auction items. It was a time for kids to be kids and adults to support a neighbor.
The event drew visitors from Texas. Hassan Rahmati and his family from Arlington own Stadium Auto. Mr. Rahmati, his son and other family members used an opportunity to visit his daughter, a student at the University of Oklahoma to come to Luther and meet Taelor. They have a family connection and wanted to meet her. Not only did the families meet face to face, a generous check of $3,000 was given to help push the goal of funds needed to get the chair. Needless to say, there were some tears and deep hugs during that exchange.
The tallies of the silent auction, the buckets from the sales of wristbands and crafts, the gofundme account and other donations put them over the top with their goal for motorized chair that will help Taelor keep up with her all her sisters, and all of her friends.
Taelor’s mom, Tacha Heron-Taylor extended her thanks on her FB page.
