It’s that time of the year, folks. Luther Lions football’s first practice of the 2017 season is complete. I would say it went out with a BANG. The team voted in a Twitter poll on whether to have the first practice in the morning or evening. The “Under the Lights” practice won, and the lights shone PRIDE.
The night was a beautiful – unseasonably cool and enjoyable evening. We usually dread the weather – the dog days of the August summer – when “two-a-day” practices engulf the two weeks before the school starts. Players, coaches, and even the parents who were there for support in the stands were excited to get the ball passing. Music blared through the speakers, spectators sang, and players danced. It was a good night! The back-to-normal schedule of 8 am practices began Tuesday morning.
The new spirit line tunnel got a run-through and there were plenty of photos snapped on the field. Footwork, passing, and positional tests, along with full team reps were some of the drills under the Monday night lights.
The Touchdown Club, and little sister Hailey Chartney, sold candy for the spectators. There is still a chance to buy your raffle tickets for the RTIC Coolers to benefit the football equipment program through the Touchdown Club. A t-shirt order is open, and due by Friday, August 11. Lanyards and bracelets will be available for purchase upon delivery.
The Chicken Shack is holding a Family Fun Night for the debut of the new rap song “Final Down,” featuring “Fresh” Jacobi Isham. There will be a $10 buffet, a raffle by the Touchdown Club, and a chance to buy your Luther Football t-shirt, and your RTIC cooler raffle ticket. Join us this Thursday night, August 10, from 7pm-11pm. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy a great time.
The team will scrimmage each other on Wilson Field, Friday, August 11, at 6pm. The Touchdown Club is collecting laundry soap, Shout stain remover, powdered Gatorade and towels in exchange for admission to the Friday scrimmage.
