Keeping up with the lawsuits

Dockets at the Oklahoma County Courthouse reflect some ongoing cases with Luther connections.

  • Luther Public Schools v ARC Architecture. The breach of contract lawsuit filed by the Norman architecture firm against Luther Public Schools was scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Wednesday of this week. Court records show that the conference was “stricken by agreement.” At the January school board meeting, Superintendent Sheldon Buxton told the board the district’s attorney had not heard back about the board’s offer, presumably for a settlement on the nearly $18,000 claim. After the hearing, Dr. Buxton told The Luther Register that a comment from him is not appropriate at this point. ARC sued the district last April over an alleged contract breach over bid work on the auditorium roof in 2015. Details of the case are here.
  • Ron Henry. The Luther Town Trustee and his wife have another court date scheduled on January 24. It’s a continuation of Pre-Trial Conference regarding the charges against the couple involving alleged voter fraud. Mr. Henry also faces charges related to a property dispute with his neighbor. While Mayor Cecilia Taft is named in the case with her admission that she notarized alleged fraudulent ballots for the 2015 Town Election, she is not charged criminally. Mr. Henry vehemently denies any wrongdoing on all counts. Details of that case are here.
  • Richard Smith. The trial for the former Town Trustee charged with six counts related to the theft of copper wire from tornado sirens donated to the town back in 2015 is scheduled to begin on Monday. Read the history of that here from newsok.com.
