The Luther Lions hosted Meeker Bulldogs at Wilson Field for an overall great ballgame Friday night. The game started off rough for the Lions, but the second half was a game-changer. With the win over the Meeker Bulldogs, 26-20, the Luther Football Touchdown Club has order forms for playoff t-shirts, because we are going to playoffs.

In the first half, Meeker held the Lions to keep them from scoring. Moving the football was hard for the Lions in the first half. Luther remained around the midfield marks most of the first and second quarters. The Meeker Bulldogs scored twice before the half, but they held Luther to a zero on the score board. It was a somber stadium in the first half.

After half time, the Lions came out with a different fire in their eyes. A win means a chance at the playoffs. Guess what? They won. Luther made round one of district playoffs in week 11 with the win over Meeker.

unnamed-4The defense after half time was no match for the Bulldog offense. A huge game changer was the blocked ball by #50 T. Leftwich and the “scoop and score” by #63 Butler on the Meeker five yard line. Touchdown Luther! #11 J. Wilson caught a huge interception to gain Luther another possession on offense.

The Lion offense saw a better second half of the ballgame, as well. The running back and quarterback runs gained first-downs which brought touchdowns. Huge passes on both the third and fourth-downs made the crowd roar. The cheerleaders, the band, and the fans were ready to root the Lions to a victory. When three minutes were left in the ballgame, Luther had scored 26 points over Meeker’s 14. Meeker found the endzone once more before the game clock ran out, but the Lions still took the “W,” 26-20.

“Y’all see how fast the game can change?” yelled #12 C Pridemore along the sideline.

After ever ballgame, Lions lined the sideline to clap and sing the fight song with the band, cheerleaders, and fans. Twice. Then came the team’s usual, “Thank You Fans” appreciation yell.
