It’s been a frightening night for Luther with an intense manhunt for a suspect who shot two Wellston police officers and then drove west in an alleged stolen car. The fear turned to tragedy when news came that two Luther residents were killed by the alleged suspect. The couple was shot at their home near Covell (206th) and Triple X Road. The male was found outside the home, and the female was inside.
We look for authorities to officially release the names of the victims as soon as all of the family is notified.
The alleged shooting spree of Michael Vance, 38, began Sunday evening when Wellston officers responded to a call, and got in a gun battle with Vance and another unnamed suspect who is in custody. Authorities say Vance was armed with an AK-47.
Lincoln County Authorities say the officers, one shot in the foot, and one in the leg, are expected to recover at home after being treated at OU Medical Center.
Authorities say Vance then allegedly shot another female (non-life threatening injury) at a nearby mobile home park, and allegedly stole someone else’s vehicle, a white Lincoln with a blue top. Apparently Vance drove that stolen vehicle to the Luther home where he shot the couple and took their vehicle. Although authorities say Vance might have been a relative of the victims, UPDATE (Monday 8:30 am) … The Luther Register has information that he was a distant relative.
Overnight, authorities were hunting for Vance in a stolen 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse, license 943 LQQ, with information that he might be heading north to Ponca City or Stillwater. As the night wore on, the intense presence of police helicopters, and patrol cars with lights and sirens waned in the area of Triple X and Covell. Residents who were blocked from their homes were able to finally go home.
Authorities from multiple agencies are working the investigation including Lincoln and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Departments, OSBI and some federal authorities.
Would be nice if it didnt take the police almost 4hrs to go in kept being told he wasnt there her car had been stolen maybe if our government would pay attention to the family that was telling them go check!!
