“Dollar General announced it completed the purchase of four former Walmart Express locations in the Oklahoma City area today, including the empty store in Luther.

Dollar General anticipates relocating an existing store location into each of the purchased sites by October 2016.

These are part of 41 former Walmart Express locations across 11 states the major discount retailer purchased. Local store locations include: 2325 Seran Drive Wewoka OK 1600 West Highway 66 Stroud OK 19250 East Highway 66 Luther OK 124 Columbia Street Okemah OK

“Dollar General is excited to add these locations to our existing store base. We look forward to the opportunity to better serve our customers in these communities by continuing to provide the convenience and value they expect from Dollar General,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s chief executive officer.

Communities served by the newly-relocated stores will enjoy a fresh DG16 layout with additional sales floor square feet, complete with expanded offerings such as fresh meat and produce, all designed to make shopping easier for customers. Dollar General also intends to operate the fueling stations in these locations.”

Open only a few months, the Luther Walmart closed earlier this year.

  1. Oh thats great news…… just a bigger building for the employee to trash. The Dollar General in Luther is NASTY and the employees are Rude. You can’t walk down isles due to the inventory just there on carts waiting for someone to finally to their job.

  2. I fervently hope dollar general steps up their game. The fear of everyone I know who hears that dollar general bought the Luther Walmart is that it will become the same trashy, junk filled, poorly run operation that the current dollar general in Luther is. Dollar General? Are you listening??

  3. I agree with the other people here. I hope Dollar General corporate employees will do a better job of monitoring this store and make sure the local management and staff actually do their job. Please make sure it is kept clean and organized. That means hiring enough staff and qualified staff to do the job.

  4. I am glad to hear this. The Dollar General at Harrah and Brittan is nice, clean, but too crowded also. I think they try to cram to much stuff in such a small space.

  5. I hope the people who feel Dollar General is beneath them stay away so that those of us who
appreciate it can shop without your negativity.

  6. I went to the DG corporate site to see if direct input would be possible and was disheartened to find the abysmal tone of messages from across the country about DG’s operations (re: the link below). So no particular interest in quality, just growth. Not all DG’s are like our one in Luther – the Wellston operation seems well run. My only hope is that the more up-scale venue will cause someone to pay more attention to quality of management.
