This headline is a little misleading in that it doesn’t involve the empty store building whatsoever, but the Town of Luther is interested in hearing from citizens about how they might benefit from a monetary gift Walmart has pledged to a non-profit entity in town.
At the Town Board meeting Tuesday night, Mayor Lea Ann Jackson asked her fellow trustees to consider a Citizen Task Force made up of a representative from the Little League and the town’s ministerial alliance among others to make a recommendation on what to do with the donation.
However, the town trustees agreed to accept public input and then re-gather for a Special Meeting to discuss the issue. The date for that is not set.
Mayor Jackson said she welcomes suggestions and ideas to her email address at [email protected].
As to the amount of money in play, it might be a few thousand dollars.
Anne Hatfield, with the Walmart corporate office says the company will welcome input.
“Every community is different and we will take the lead from the community and their leaders as to how we can best benefit the community,” said Hatfield.
As to the real news of what is to come of the empty building, no word yet. No official word.
Had to include the video of this part of the meeting, since The Luther Register was mentioned.
