The agenda for Tuesday evening’s meeting of the Town of Luther has a few interesting notes. The meeting begins at 7 pm at the Luther Community Building.
The agenda features a Public Comments opportunity near the top of the agenda. The item states “must sign up with the Town Clerk. Each speaker is limited to two minutes with a 15 minute maximum per item. Comment must be regarding an agenda item. Any other questions or concerns can be left with the Town Clerk.”
Other new items on the agenda include reports from the Treasurer, Fire Chief and Police Chief.
Trustee Birlene Langley has an item related to Laura McCuddy who serves as the town clerk, treasurer and office manager. The town board will go into executive session to “discuss McCuddy’s employment performance and possible disciplining, including but not limited to possible termination/dismissal.”
Town Trustee Birlene Langley also has put on the agenda an item to consider a vote to move the elected position of Town Clerk/Treasurer to an appointed one.
Langley also has items to consider the accrual of paid leave among town employees, an application process to hire an animal control officer and code enforcement officer, and the possible sale of two lots near the corner of First and Eldridge.
Another agenda item regards the board’s possible appointment of a Task Force to recommend to the Town Board a proposal for Walmart community assistance. This is the first town board meeting since Walmart closed and left Luther on January 28, 2016.
Following the regular meeting of the town board, the Luther Public Works Authority convenes. Of special note on that agenda is an item by Langley to consider, discuss and possibly act regarding the delinquent Luther Public Schools Utility Bills of $1,879.76 for December, 2015, and $1,795.76 for January 2016.
Tuesday is also election day for a vacant seat on the Luther School Board. Polls are open until 7 pm, and we will post results as soon as possible here or on our Facebook page.
