The best ticket in Luther on Saturday night was the benefit ballgame between ABI (Amputee Basketball Invigorated) and an awesome team of Luther Public Schools faculty and friends. The good cause raised nearly $4,500 (and still counting) in donations to fund a new athletic prosthetic leg for Iz Lawson, Luther’s eight-year-old Cancer Warrior Princess. The donations came dollar by dollar through admission, raffle tickets, bake sales and the even the generosity of neighbors at the Yale gym on Friday night when they played Luther on the hardwoods. The Yale stands passed the hat and gathered about $500 for Iz, just because they wanted to help. A 4-H bake sale, t-shirt sales, raffle items (including a basketball signed by Sooner Coach Sherri Coale) and a lot of good will made the night one to remember in the Lion’s Den.
The goal is up to $25,000 for the special prosthetic that will allow Iz to get back on the court, the field or the track. Her Go Fund Me page is here.
