Bison Blinds

In a letter dated December 8, 2015, Luther High School Dean of Students Patti Buxton tendered her resignation.

Dear Dr. Buxton,

Thank you for the opportunity you have given me to serve the students and families of Luther High School. The students have been respectful, kind and courteous. Additionally, the parents I have worked with have been a very support group.

At this time I am submitting my resignation from my position as Dean of Students… effective December 31, 2015.

You have my utmost respect for the changes you have worked toward to better serve our students and their families. I will continue to pray for you, the students and the families of Luther High School. I send to you personally my very best wishes for all of your endeavors.

Respectfully,
Dr. Patti Buxton
Dean of Students
Luther High School

Dr. Patti Buxton, the wife of the superintendent, was hired in August 2015 by the school board. As a newly created position of Dean of Students, her main focus was to address discipline. During her first nine weeks, she addressed 123 referrals that resulted in 31 suspensions for fighting, drugs or disruption, cussing a teacher or refusal to comply with a teacher request, truancy and theft.

In addition, Dr. Sheldon Buxton said there are two internal candidates for the position of interim high school principal who will be considered at Monday night’s board meeting. Principal Jan Scheffler also resigned this semester.

As a cost-saving measure, the school board is not expected to advertise for a new principal for the spring semester.
